Revolutionary Spectrum Analytics

In 2015 Nokia acquired Eden Rock Communications, a pioneer in the Self Organizing Network (SON) space and the originator of Nokia’s Eden-NET SON solution. Before the acquisition, Eden Rock launched Spectrum Effect and assigned to Spectrum Effect its advanced RF interference and spectrum analytics technologies. These technologies were created in partnership with research projects with the United States Department of Defense and Office of Naval Research. Since its formation and through its spin-off from Eden Rock Communications, Spectrum Effect has assembled a world-class R&D team and continued to innovate while productizing its technologies. Spectrum Effect is defining the revolutionary new spectrum analytics space for mobile operators.

Mobile operators invest billions of dollars into spectrum licenses, RAN equipment, network optimizations and advanced technologies to ensure maximum spectral efficiencies. Despite these massive investments, mobile operators today lack visibility to the effects of external and unintended internal RF interference within their networks. External interference originates from outside the mobile operator deployed networks; sources could include networks in bordering geographies, emissions from industrial equipment, unauthorized devices, and unauthorized nodes. Unintended internal RF interference originates from within the mobile operator deployed network but is not expected and is unaccounted for during typical network optimizations; sources could include faulty equipment at a tower site (e.g. causing PIM), rogue UEs, and distant cells within the operator network via tropospheric ducting. No mobile operator would think twice about protecting their offices with qualified security personnel, yet their most valued asset, licensed spectrum, remains unguarded - until now. Looking forward, the capability to measure, isolate and quantify external RF interference will become even more essential for mobile operators as spectrum sharing becomes a reality (among operators and with the government) with the evolution to 5G.  

Protected by sixteen patents and patent applications, Spectrum Effect’s groundbreaking spectrum analytics solution, Spectrum-NET automatically detects, characterizes, locates and assesses the impact of external and unintended internal RF interference.
